Crockpot Sweet Potatoes
Yes you read that right- you can crockpot your entire sweet potato!! This method is a must for me. It saves so much time because I don’t have to peel the potatoes prior to baking them and you can make a large batch and even freeze them if needed!!
I love mashed sweet potatoes for my meal prep and for dinner but I don’t want to have to make them each night or have to bake them in the oven for 40-60 mins then peel and mash them. I’ve got shit to do! If you don’t like mashed- hang with me, I have a modification for you non-mash loving folks. With this method I share with you, you literally throw those beautiful orange babies in the crockpot, give them a little bath water and let those suckers cook! SO easy!! Better yet- if you happen to have 2 crockpots ( I invested in a second because I use them nearly everyday for either making our dinner, meal prep, potato prep or making our homemade dog food- I often have both going at once and it was worth the money to have 2!) anyway- so if you have 2 crockpots- throw your chicken in one, potatoes in the other and BOOM! Meal prep can literally be done while you sleep!!
Ok, so I’m babbling…..onto the the good stuff–CARBS!!!
Here is a very detailed photo album of my exciting adventure with potatoes today. haha. If you know me- I tend to over explain just to make sure everything is clear. OCD? Control freak? Who knows…it’s just what I do. lol
Alright–get ready…I’m sure you are on the edge of your seat for the trip to PotatoTown!
What you need: Crockpot, about 1 Cup of water, sweet potatoes
Next- Scrub those babies. No one likes a dirty potato!
After scrubbing, don’t dry them. The moisture on the skin is needed while they cook. Toss those wet taters in the crockpot. You can put as many potatoes in as you like as long as you can still close the lid.
Now it’s time to add the water. This will provide moisture through the cooking process. You want to add just enough water to cover the bottom of the crockpot- so about 1/4″-1/2″ of water.
That’s it!! Now place the lid on and bake!
For Mashed Sweets:
Bake on HIGH for 3-4 hours or LOW 6-7 hours
For Baked Sweets:
Bake on HIGH 1.5-2 hours or LOW 3-4 hours.
(tick tock, tick tock, tick tock……TIMES UP!!)
So when the potatoes are done, simply remove them and place them on a large cutting board or plate.
Now we need to peel them — seriously the EASIEST ever! Takes 1 min to peel all of them!! Just make a slit in the skin the length of the potato.
The peel literally comes right off, effortless!! Place the peeled potato in a medium or large bowl and repeat process until all potatoes are peeled.
Once all potatoes are peeled, it’s time to mash!!! Now- if you chose to bake the potatoes, you can leve the skin on if you like or peel them and dice up.
To mash, all you need is a fork! Mash until desired texture is achieved
Once you have them mashed, you may add a dash of sea salt to taste. These potatoes are so tender and delicious they truly need no seasoning at all!
Finally–and if you want to be fancy ( I just did it for the photo! 🙂 place the potatoes in a serving dish and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
TA-DA!!! The easiest mashed potatoes ever! The crockpot is a breeze to clean up too!
I hope you will try this at home! Let me know what you think and leave a comment.

Haha! Well now you know for next time 😊. That’s why I like the crockpot. I don’t have to hear the kitchen up. 👍🏼
I love to make them like this! So easy & I don’t have to heat up the oven. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Thank you very much! 😊
I just made these tonight, I absolutely love this idea. I hate baking them in the oven, they sometimes leak and make a mess. This is so much easier and the mashed is one of my favorites. Thanks so much Emily again for your amazing recipes 😊😊😊 could you do the same with regular potatoes? I know my boyfriends loves his mashed potatoes lol
Absolutely you can use this method with regular potatoes too! They won’t take as long since they are not as dense :). I’m so happy you liked them!!
We are making these right now! Can’t wait to taste them! Our plan switched up with coach this week so we can have sweet potatoes now. Before we had red I potatoes on the plan and we used the crockpot and they turned out great. Mashed them and left skins on for the extra fiber! Thanks for the wonderful idea😀🌺
